Detox, Underlay, Pre-Pigmentation, Coloring

Detox, Underlay, Pre-Pigmentation and Coloring — ALL IN ONE SESSION!

I love challenging color correction and transformation projects.

I often work with clients whose previous coloring history is unclear. In many cases, clients themselves cannot say exactly what products or techniques were previously used on their hair.

The situation is usually something like this: an overgrown root, with no gray hair at best; the middle section of the length has unevenly applied color or has been previously darkened/lightened; and the ends are sensitive and lightened.

This particular transformation had a similar starting point.

The client’s goal was to keep the light length, even out the overall color, and darken the roots.

The steps:

– Detox of the lengths.
This procedure helps thoroughly remove buildup from the hair and scalp, including chlorine, metals, and environmental pollutants that a regular shampoo cannot effectively eliminate.

This step helps minimize the risk of the hair structure being compromised during oxidative color processes due to interaction between the color formula and accumulated metals or mineral salts.

It is an important preparatory step before applying chemical treatments. Trichology knowledge helps us understand why this preparation is necessary and how it affects the hair.

– Underlay.
Essentially, this is a form of reconstruction, but focused on key components such as proteins and amino acids.

Its purpose is to help fill structural gaps in the hair by replenishing components that have been lost throughout the length. This allows the color pigment to distribute more evenly, prevents the color from becoming too transparent or “sinking” into porous areas, and helps the result remain stable for longer.

– Pre-pigmentation.
This involves depositing pigment into the most lightened areas of the hair to recreate the necessary underlying pigment for the desired tone.

Pre-pigmentation is needed to ensure that the final color develops evenly throughout the lengths and ends. It also contributes to better long-term color retention.

– Coloring.
And finally — the actual coloring, which is what the client came to us for.

When the coloring process is performed correctly and professionally, the client is more likely to be satisfied with the result — and to come back again.
